Teen Mentor/Peer Leadership

Boston City Singers provides a quality music education in after-school classes and rehearsals for children of diverse backgrounds. We foster teamwork, self-discipline, accomplishment and pride while filling an important cultural need in the Boston metropolitan community. Headquartered in Dorchester, Boston City Singers trains and inspires the artist, student and ambassador in each child and shares these developed talents throughout the year in public and private performances.

Studies have shown that children and young people who have chorus training are better equipped to tackle arduous school work. This type of training assists them in coping with the ups and downs of everyday life. The discipline they acquire in Boston City Singers rehearsals and classes helps students manage their time wisely and balance their extracurricular activities with their school and family responsibilities.

Boston City Singers professionals train teens as mentors, program leaders and administrative assistants, not only supporting the tasks of the organization but also providing meaningful work experiences. Our younger members benefit greatly from this attention and support.

Global Voices

This initiative educates our singers to live in a world of differences through cultural exchange. Our members grow not only musically but personally in confidence, dedication and poise. Concert Chorus singers have participated in Goodwill Tours across the United States and Canada, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand and hosted ensembles from Ireland, South Africa, Australia, Finland and the United States.

Chorus to College

To date, 100% of Boston City Singers Concert Chorus graduates have gone on to 4-year colleges — many with substantial scholarships. The Artistic and Education Director and other professionals associated with the program often take young people to visit colleges, provide guidance and referrals for applying to college, and advocate for scholarships and financial assistance. College visits are an essential part of each Goodwill Tour.

Sing for Good

Boston City Singers believes that all students, regardless of their personal economic position, have a responsibility to share their talents for the public good. We provide opportunities for singers to contribute to their community by providing entertainment for fundraisers for other non-profits as well as for civic and governmental events. To date, we have sung for a number of State of the City events in Boston, Presidential events, televised Holiday Concerts on the Boston Common, retirement communities, nursing homes, schools, and private events in homes and at conventions.
